Wood Privacy FenceFor privacy fencing wood is often an economical and durable choice. The cedar fence pickets are usually 6" in width and anywhere from 4 to 8' tall. The most common style of cedar fence picket is dog-ear. A dog-eared picket makes it easier to get a nice looking line along the top. Flat-top fence pickets can also used. Wood pickets can also be installed in a shadow-box style which is also known as a "good-neighbor" fence. A wood fence with a distinctive border is known as 'picture-frame'. If you are looking for ideas on how to build a wood fence please let us know. There are many types of wood fences and we can suggest many wood fence ideas. One type of wood fence that we do not recommend is using the wood privacy fence panels from the box stores. These fence panels are initially attractive and usually priced to sell. The problem with these cedar fence panels is that they are made with poor quality materials. The actual life span of these panels is rather short. We always recommend building a wood fence with individual cedar fence pickets.
Wood Picket FencePicket fences using wood are an attractive and affordable way to define property boundaries. The cedar fence pickets themselves are usually 4" wide and are commonly 4' or 6' high. The spacing between the pickets is variable based on personal preference. The cedar fence pickets almost always have a dog-eared top. The pickets can also be stained or left to weather to a nice shade of gray.
Split Rail CedarSplit-rail cedar fencing is of course made out of cedar. Split rail cedar comes in both two-rail and three-rail styles. Posts are 5' 6" tall for a 2-rail fence and 6' 6" for a 3-rail fence. The rails come in both 8 and 10 lengths but 10 foot is usually the most common. Wire can be added to keep animals in or out. The wire most often used is either welded wire or field fence.
